Skew is a slight tilt, typically one to five degrees, where text lines are not perfectly horizontal. This is a resampling operation and involves a small quality loss, so deskewing should be applied only to pages that actually need it, not to the entire batch indiscriminately. The solution is to group pages by their original dimensions, apply a consistent trim within each group, and then combine the groups back into a single document. This preserves the original page proportions while still achieving consistency within each size category.

For the odd-sized inserts that do not fit any standard category, consider whether they need to be the same size as the rest of the document. A receipt taped to a letter-size backing sheet can be scanned as letter size, and the backing sheet provides the consistent margin. Automating Consistency Checks Across Large Batches
