Trimming and Assembling the Tiles
Trim each sheet along one defined edge. Choose the right edge and bottom edge of every tile except those in the last column and last row, which keep those edges intact. Consistent trimming creates a uniform overlap pattern. Sheet 1,1 keeps its left and top edges, trimmed on right and bottom. Sheet 2,1 is trimmed on left and bottom. Consistency makes the assembly go faster.
Tape or glue trimmed sheets onto a backing board rather than to each other. Taping sheets edge-to-edge creates a fragile assembly that tears at the seams when rolled or folded. Send the original large-format PDF, not a tiled version, to the print shop. The shop's large-format printer needs the full-size file to produce the correct output. Include the desired dimensions, paper type, and quantity in the order instructions. A properly specified order produces output that requires no trimming or assembly on your end.
Saving as a Multi-Page PDF for On-Screen Use
When the goal is viewing on screen rather than printing, tiling is unnecessary. A large PDF page displays at full resolution on a monitor regardless of physical dimensions. Zoom in for details. Pan to navigate. The large format only constrains print, where physical paper size limits the output.
